Rainy Summer Elopement in Madeira
Adventurous elopement experience in Madeira – from rainy forests to sunny mountains
I only have one word for this Madeira elopement: EPIC! What an incredible, breathtakingly beautiful two days it’s been with Danielle & Darren, who came all the way from Canada to my favorite island.
And our time truly had it all. We started with a calm sunrise first look at a beach in Funchal. Then explored misty, rainy mountains and forests, as well as my favorite (secret) location near Pico do Arieiro. Walked along dramatic cliffs in Faial and Caniçal. Enjoyed a heartfelt ceremony with their family and friends. And met again the next morning for yet another sunrise – this time with the most perfect conditions imaginable on Pico Ruivo.
This rainy summer elopement in Madeira shows how little some rain (even the sideways, 60mph kind) matters when you’re truly embracing your adventure. And in a place like Madeira, you often just turn a corner and suddenly find yourself in a sunny wonderland anyway.
Wondering how to elope in Madeira?

Pico Ruivo Sunrise Elopement Photos
After a day with mixed weather conditions, the next morning looked completely different. It’s actually quite incredible that all of these photos were taken within just a little over 24 hours, isn’t it? There’s truly no place quite like Madeira.
We had originally planned to drive to Fanal Forest for sunrise but changed plans and opted for Pico Ruivo instead. Especially during the summer months, this place gets insanely busy, so the parking lot where the summit hike begins was already packed. Luckily, when you know where to go, you can not only skip the hike but also find yourself enjoying the most beautiful sunrise views imaginable. And, most importantly, without the crowds.
