When people think about eloping at the Amalfi Coast in Italy, everyone wants to go to Positano or Amalfi. Which is beautiful, sure, but choosing to elope in Sorrento instead offers a much better experience, in my opinion. More on this in a second.
Emma and Matt came to Europe all the way from Australia and spent an incredible few days in Sorrento. One of them was for their private elopement, where we got to explore this gorgeous little town together for some amazing photos.

Why Sorrento is the best town for an Amalfi Coast Elopement
Like I said before, compared to its popular neighbors, Sorrento seems to be quite underrated for an elopement – or as a travel destination in general. But to me, it’s an absolute dream, less busy, and more affordable.
Of course, there’s still a lot going on during peak season in summer, but in Sorrento, it feels much, much more manageable and enjoyable. Especially if you get up early, the city center is quiet, and avoiding the crowds is super easy.
And no matter where you go, every alley is more beautiful than the last. It’s the perfect place for an amazing, relaxed elopement day that doesn’t feel rushed.
The best time of year to elope in Sorrento
The best months for an elopement in Sorrento are April, May, June, and October.
This particular one was in late June. You could definitely tell the off-season was well and truly over, but it wasn’t an issue at all (check out this similar Barcelona elopement). It also wasn’t nearly as crowded as in July and August, which are best to be avoided when planning to elope in Sorrento.
Especially if privacy is important to you, opting for the shoulder season has some massive benefits, and still comes with pleasant temperatures around 20-28°C (68-82°F).
How this Sorrento elopement unfolded
Getting ready and exploring hidden alleys and courtyards
After some early-morning photos as the two of them were getting ready for the day, we headed out and walked into the city center. For a few hours, we strolled through Sorrento’s picturesque alleys and had some beautiful courtyards all to ourselves. After a stop at a cute little café for lunch, we grabbed some obligatory gelato as well as a small souvenir for them to bring home.
Then it was nap time, literally. Incredible what you can do on your wedding day, simply by choosing to elope, huh? Anyway, we parted ways for a few hours because we had planned another fun activity for sunset.
Private sunset boat ride for their ceremony and vows
Months earlier, I had already organized a private boat ride for us with Amalfi Coast Dream. We took an Uber down to the harbor, and as the sun slowly set, spent two hours driving along the stunning Amalfi Coast with our captain. It was the absolute perfect end to an amazing day, and the most private setting for an intimate elopement ceremony and heartfelt vows. That being said, as it turned out, none of us could handle being on the water that well, but what’s some casual sea sickness if it comes with views like this lol, right?
